One of the things I love most about homeopathy is how practical it can be in everyday life. So often, clients ask me “Should I wait until I need a remedy, or is it worth keeping some at home?”
My answer is simple: if you want to bring homeopathy into your daily life, it’s incredibly empowering to have a few remedies ready to go. Life doesn’t always give us time to wait for shipping—earaches arrive in the middle of the night, a bee sting happens on a walk, or a sudden fever shows up out of the blue. Having a small kit or remedy supply at home means you can respond quickly, without stress.
Why Start a Homeopathy Kit?
Think of a homeopathy kit as your first-aid box. Just as you might keep band-aids or a thermometer in the cupboard, having remedies on hand means you can:
Support your family through common complaints without panic.
Avoid unnecessary doctor visits for minor issues.
Save money by addressing things before they escalate.
Feel confident and prepared, instead of scrambling to order remedies last minute.
Many people find it helpful to begin with a ready-made option like the Helios Homeopathy Kits, which include a range of commonly used remedies in one neat package. These can be ordered directly from Helios or even found on Amazon. If you are interested in using protocols from the Banerji’s (this is what we predominantly use in Practical Homeopathy) then a Banerji designed kit is your best option.
Another simple and accessible option I recommend is Boiron ColdCalm, Boiron Chestal, and Boiron Oscillococcinum, which you can pick up at health food stores or online. These gentle, over-the-counter remedies provide supportive care at the first signs of a cold, flu, or cough, making them a useful addition to your medicine cabinet. They can be especially helpful if you are traveling or need to wait for a specific homeopathic remedy to arrive to target a particular type of cold or flu symptom.
Suggested Remedies to Start With
Of course, once you discover homeopathy, it’s easy to start building a very long wish list of remedies (I’ve been there too!). But to keep things simple, here are some key remedies I often suggest as a starting point:
Arsenicum album 200c – For stomach upsets, food poisoning, anxiety with restlessness, and itching.
Arnica 30c or 200c – The classic first-aid remedy for bruises, bumps, overexertion, or recovery after dental work or surgery.
Belladonna 3c or 30c – For sudden fevers, flushed face, glassy eyes, or throbbing pain. Think red, hot, throbbing. Excellent addition to any acute situation that fits the picture eg: earache.
Apis 30c, 200c, or 1M – For bee stings, insect bites, or allergic reactions with swelling, redness, and heat. If you or someone you know has severe reactions I would not leave home without this in my arsenal.
Aconite 200c – Perfect for the very first sign of shock, fright, panic, cardiac conditions, or the sudden onset of colds and flu (for colds and flu this combines with Bryonia 30c as the Banerji protocol for the first sign of illness).
Chamomilla 30c or 200c – For teething in babies and teeth pain in adults, earaches, intense irritability (especially in children) and unbearable pain.
Bryonia 30c – For dry, painful coughs or body aches that worsen with movement. It is excellent for breast pain or tenderness. (Tip: as mentioned above this works wonderfully paired with Aconite 200c at the onset of colds or flu.)
Carbo vegetabilis 200c – For extreme bloating, indigestion, or exhaustion—sometimes nicknamed “the homeopathic oxygen” this remedy is for breathlessness, or complete collapse.
Ledum 200c – For puncture wounds, insect bites, and even to support healing after vaccinations. For any type of bite or wound clean it with Calendula Mother Tincture and immediately begin Ledum 200c.
Hypericum 200c – For nerve pain or injuries to sensitive areas. This remedy is incredible when combined with Arsenicum 200c, the banerji protocol for prevention or set in infections – your at home alternative to antibiotics (please remember if an infection is serious it needs to be assessed by a medical professional).
Hepar sulph 6c or 200c – Another antibiotic alternative. Your go to remedy for abscesses, boils, and infections.
Cantharis 200c – For burns, scalds, blistering injuries or burning urination (UTI).
Calendula – Mother tincture, ointment, or cream is perfect for rinsing, cleaning, and supporting the healing of wounds.
12 cell salt combination – This can also be known as tissue salt or Bioplasma. A gentle blend of cell salts that supports overall balance, energy, and recovery.
If you would like to build a cold & flu kit I will address this in the next blog as it is a really extensive topic so needs its own attention!
Where to Buy
Choosing a reputable pharmacy to purchase your remedies from is imperative. The same remedy in different brands are not all created equal. The pharmacies I partner with and recommend follow the strictest guidelines and the highest standards. Depending on your location you will have access to different companies. Some options are:
Helios Homeopathy: Helios are located in England and ship worldwide. They are my favorite for building my at home pharmacy. If you order your remedies in a size 6 then 1 pill = 1 dose. This makes the remedies super affordable and easy. Shipping is generally very fast.
Boiron: Boiron is probably the most well-known homeopathic supplier worldwide. They are accessible online, Amazon and many health food stores. Boiron tubes are handy for on the go or acute situations. If you need a remedy regularly or longer term you may want to purchase a larger more cost efficient option from Helios or similar.
OHM: I absolutely love this pharmacy as they make Banerji protocol combinations. You will need a practitioner to help you order though which can make it a little more difficult to get access.
Simillimum: Located in New Zealand, they ship around New Zealand and Australia. They are a fantastic company and will be happy to make combination remedies for you if you reach out.
Angels Homeopathy: located in Australia. They have an excellent option to put your own kits together. They have a great supply of remedies and fast shipping.
Other reputable companies include: Dr Reckeweg, Washington Homeopathics, Hahnemann Labs just to name a few.
Choosing the Right Remedies for Your Home
It’s important to remember that the “perfect” remedies for your home will look a little different for everyone. A household with young children may find Chamomilla and Belladonna indispensable, while others might prioritize remedies for digestion, circulation, or recovery. If you live with pets, remedies like Ledum, Arnica, or Hypericum can be especially useful.
Think about what tends to come up most in your home—earaches, stomach bugs, bumps and bruises, burns, or minor infections—and let that guide which remedies you start with. Building your kit around your family’s unique needs makes it far more practical and supportive.
The Key Takeaway
You don’t need an endless supply of remedies to start seeing how helpful homeopathy can be. Even a small kit with just a handful of these remedies can make a world of difference in your home. From easing a child’s earache to calming the discomfort of a burn or supporting recovery from a minor infection, these simple tools can support everyday wellness.
Homeopathy empowers you to take charge of your family’s health with confidence—without spending huge amounts of money or running to the doctor for every minor issue.
